Warren and Mary Lynn Staley First Recipients of the Hendrickson Medal for Ethical Leadership
 Warren and Mary Lynn Staley have a long history of community involvement and a reputation for sound ethical judgment and leadership. In recognition of their contributions and accomplishments, they are the first recipients of the Hendrickson Medal for Ethical Leadership.
Warren Staley retired as chairman of Cargill, Inc. in September 2007, after more than 25 years of service with the company. He joined Cargill as a trainee in 1969 and held various merchandising and administrative positions in corn milling in the United States, Europe and Argentina. Before becoming CEO in June 1999, he served as the chief operating officer and was on the board of directors.
Warren continues to be active in the community after his retirement, serving in leadership roles with several corporate and nonprofit organizations. He is on the board of U.S. Bancorp, chairman of the Minnesota Early Learning Foundation, member of the President’s Export Council and participant on The Business Council. He also recently completed six-year involvements with the boards of Target Corporation and the Minnesota Private Colleges Council.
Mary Lynn Staley began her career as an elementary school teacher, and she remains engaged in the community by doing work for various nonprofits. She currently serves on the board of advisors of Opportunity International, one of the world’s leading microfinance organizations, and the Greater Twin Cities United Way. She and Warren also serve together on the board of governors of KARE-TV’s Eleven Who Care.
The Staleys met at Kansas State University, where Mary Lynn received her bachelor’s degree in early education and Warren received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1965. Warren went on to receive a master’s degree in business administration from Cornell University in 1967.
Since Warren’s retirement, the Staleys have been able to devote more time to their interests and hobbies, including spending time with their grandchildren and friends and traveling the globe. |
