Surgical Technology
Admission Requirements

Applicants must possess a high school diploma with a minimal grade of C in the areas of high school chemistry, mathematics, and science course work. Students with a GED may be admitted upon recommendation of the program director and will be required to meet the academic provisions of the first semester to continue in the program. No prior health care industry experience is required for admission. Students must demonstrate acceptable physical health that meets the stamina, stress, and physical dexterity requirements of the surgical technology role. Applicants must demonstrate the language proficiency necessary for successful undergraduate coursework.



Application Process

Applicants must submit:

  1. A completed application form with nonrefundable application fee.
  2. Transcripts from their high school, GED, and from any post secondary educational institutions.
  3. Completed Health Form documenting physical examination and immunizations.
  4. Applicants must complete a criminal background check as required by the State of Minnesota. This check will be repeated every 12 months for students who are enrolled in the program.
  5. If English is not the first language, an English Language Assessment must be completed.

Application materials should be sent to the attention of the Office of Admission on the Twin Cities campus.

Semester One 9 cr.
ST 105 Medical terminology 1 cr./15 hrs.
ST 110 Anatomy and Physiology 5 cr./75 hrs.
ST 115 Introduction to Surgical Technology 3 cr./45 hrs.

Semester Two 13 cr.
ST 150 Microbiology and Wound Healing 3 cr./45 hrs.
ST 160 Pharmacology 4 cr./60 hrs.
ST 170 Operating Room Principles I 3 cr./45 hrs.
ST 171 Operating Room Application I 4 cr./45 hrs.

Semester Three 13 cr.
ST 210 Health Care Ethics 1 cr./15 hrs.
ST 240 Operating Room Principles II 3 cr./15 hrs.
ST 250 Operating Room Principles III 3 cr./15 hrs.
ST 251 Operating Room Application II 6 cr./90 hrs.

Semester Four 10 cr.
ST 270 Clinical Practicum I 5 cr./250 hrs.
ST 280 Clinical Practicum II 5 cr./250 hrs.
Total 46 cr.
