Program Information

The Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota program for the degree of Doctor of Education in Leadership (Ed.D.) is a practitioner-oriented program with a curriculum and schedule designed around the needs of adult learners. In order to meet the requirements of the degree, students must complete a minimum of 66 semester credits. This will include coursework in leadership, education, research, and a track of choice. After completion of their coursework, students will be required to pass a comprehensive examination before writing a dissertation on a relevant topic.

Coursework is offered on week nights and Saturdays. Additional coursework will prepare students to meet the requirements of the Minnesota Department of Education for the purpose of obtaining a license as a principal in an elementary or secondary school or as a superintendent of schools. For additional information about courses leading to state licensing, students should refer to the Educational Administration Licensure program information. Students in the off campus program must take at least six credits of coursework on the Twin Cities Campus.
