*Note to returning students and parents: MCA has restructured the beginning ballet levels to better suit the needs of our students. We feel these changes will allow students to complete the curriculum being taught at each specific level. Please note the new age or placement guidelines for your child's course. Age is simply a guide, student will ultimately be placed in a level based on his or her instructor's recommendation. For offerings for 3 and 4 year olds, please see the Creative Movement class listed under Modern.

Ballet

Pre Ballet I: An introduction to Classical ballet for 5 year olds.

Ballet I: Beginning Classical ballet basics including the introduction of barre work for ages 7 and up.

Tap and Jazz


Tap and Jazz for Kids: Introduction to tap and jazz dance for children ages 5 to 8.
Tuesdays 4:15 - 5 pm, Instructor: J. Severson

Tap and Jazz I: Beginning level of rhythm tap and traditional jazz. Completion of four semesters is required before advancement is considered.
Saturdays 9 - 10:15 am, Instructor: J. Severson

Jazz II: Intermediate level of traditional jazz. Completion of four semesters is required before advancement is considered.
Saturdays 11 am - 12:15 pm, Instructor: J. Severson

Jazz III and IV: Advanced level of traditional jazz including the exploration of choreography and stretch class for flexibility.

Modern




Creative Movement: An Introduction to the dance class setting using creative movement techniques for ages 3 and 4.
Wednesdays 4 - 4:30 pm, Instructor: J. Piscitiello

Modern I: An Introduction to modern dance for children ages 5 to 9. Completion of four semesters is required before advancement is considered.

Modern II: Fast beginning and intermediate level of modern dance. Completion of four semesters is required before advancement is considered.

Boys Program

The Conservatory proudly supports a Tuition Free Boys Program! Male Students ages 8 to 16 are invited to participate in classes at MCA, tuition free, for one year. In order to be eligible for this program, male students ages 8 to 16 must register for and participate in the Dance Technique for Boys class (see description below). Additionally, students may choose to enroll in any other dance classes (hip hop, tap, jazz, ballet, etc.) tuition free for one year. After this time, male students who maintain eligibility in this program will receive a 10% discount off their total class tuition.

Dance classes are a great opportunity for boys to build athletic endurance, balance, and coordination. The Conservatory offers nuturing classes with male and female instructors allowing male students to feel comfortable while building technqiue, creativity and confidence.

Dance Technique for Boys: This course develops physical technique used in Classical and contemporary dance disciplines such as ballet, modern and jazz. For male students ages 8 to 16.

Hip Hop

Junior Hip Hop: A beginning look at hip-hop dance and choreography incorporating appropriate moves of popular MTV stars. For ages 7 to 10.
Saturdays 10:15 - 11 am, Instructor: J. Severson

Hip Hop I Section A: A beginning look at hip-hop dance and choreography incorporating the moves of popular MTV stars. For ages 11 to 14.
Fridays 4 - 5 pm, Instructor: J. Draskoci-Johnson

Hip Hop I Section B: A beginning look at hip-hop dance and choreography incorporating the moves of popular MTV stars. For ages 15 and up.
Fridays 5 - 6 pm, Instructor: J. Draskoci-Johnson

Hip Hop II and III: An intermediate/advanced look at hip-hop dance and choreography incorporating the moves of popular MTV stars.

Adult and Specialty Classes

In addition to our programming for children, the Conservatory offers a variety of courses geared toward teens and adults at a beginning and/or intermediate level. Adults are welcome to take any other course offerings at MCA, however please understand that younger students may also be enrolled in these courses. The courses denoted with an asterisk (*) are specifically designed to make beginning teen or adult students feel comfortable in their learning environment.

Pilates strengthening: This class is geared toward the intermediate or advanced dancer desiring to condition and strengthen the body. For ages 12 and up. For younger students by invitation only. This class is already part of the curriculum for Ballet V, VI and VII students.

*Teen and Adult Ballet: An Introduction to ballet technique for ages 13 to adult. All levels welcome, no experience necessary.

Winona County Community Education
The following classes are offered in partnership with Winona County Community Education. You may register for Clogging I and II, Dance Fitness, and Piyo through MCA or Community Education (507.494.0900). Community Education classes will be held January 28 through April 14.

*Clogging I: An introduction to clogging for ages 13 to adult. All levels welcome, no experience necessary. Students will learn basics of clog dances. Don't miss this toe-tapping, foot stomping good time!
Mondays 5:15 - 5:45 pm, Instructor: A. Honecker-Sherman

*Clogging II: Clogging for students with experience. Ages 13 to adult are welcome. Students will learn traditional folk dances. Don't miss this toe-tapping, foot stomping good time!
Mondays 5:45 - 6:30 pm, Instructor: A. Honecker-Sherman

*Dance Fitness: This aerobic course will include warm-ups using jazz dance technique, kickboxing for a great cardio workout, and Pilates and yoga influences for stretching and strengthening. Weights may be used for additional strengthening. For ages 13 to adult, younger students by invitation only. All levels welcome, no experience necessary.

*Piyo: This Pilates and yoga combination class focuses on yoga postures and Pilates strengthening to offer the perfect conditioning class. For ages 13 to adult, younger students by invitation only. All levels welcome, no experience necessary. Certified instructor!

Dress Code

*Ballet
Females: pink tights, pink ballet slippers, black leotard, hair pulled tightly off the face and neck in a bun. A black skirt may be worn for pointe and/or variations classes.
Males: white t-shirt, black sweat pants, leggings, or tights, black or white ballet slippers (dance belt required for teen and adult male dancers).

*Modern
Moveable clothing (not too baggy as to hinder the instructor's view of the student's body lines), bare feet, hair pulled off the face and neck. No jeans or jean shorts may be worn.

*Tap
Moveable clothing, tap shoes (preferably flat or jazz taps, not character or high heel taps), hair pulled off the face and neck. No jeans or jean shorts may be worn.

*Jazz
Moveable clothing (not too baggy as to hinder the instructor's view of the student's body lines), jazz shoes, jazz sneakers, or ballet slippers, hair pulled off the face and neck. No jeans or jean shorts may be worn.

*Hip Hop, Adult, and Other Specialty Classes
Moveable clothing as desired. No jeans or jean shorts may be worn. Hip Hop students wear clean tennis shoes or jazz sneakers.
