Volunteer Mentors
Campus Ministry's Volunteer Mentors uphold the university’s mission statement, which states, "... Saint Mary's University of Minnesota awakens, nurtures and empowers learners to ethical lives of service and leadership." Students are introduced to a variety of volunteer opportunities further acquainting them to the Lasallian philosophy of faith, zeal and service to society.
Volunteer Mentors coordinate activities between SMU students and non-profits in the local Winona area. We help with processing clothing and stocking the food shelf at Winona Volunteer Services, with hospitality at the Winona Catholic Worker, and serve breakfast with Early Childhood Education Initiative. These small, but important tasks help make our community better.
In addition to local volunteer opportunities, Volunteer Mentors organize trips to Lasallian San Miguel Schools in Minneapolis and the Chicago area and participates in mission style trips like Hurricane Relief in Biloxi, MS. These longer extended trips outside of the Winona area usually take place over scheduled school breaks.
For a complete list of all volunteer opportunities please contact campusministry@smumn.edu.
The Office of Campus Ministry is located in the Toner Student Center's lower level. The office is staffed during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) throughout the academic year.
