Applying for Undergraduate Admission

Ready to apply? The application requirements at Saint Mary’s differ based on what type of admission you are seeking.

Freshman Admission
Who should apply to Saint Mary’s as a freshman, or first-year, student?

  • Current high school students
  • Current college students with fewer than 12 earned credits
  • Current Minnesota high school students who have earned college credits as part of the PSEO dual-enrollment program
  • Current high school students who have earned college credits via any other program (CLEP, AP, IBP, PACC, etc.)

Freshman or first-year application requirements include the following:

  • Application for admission
  • Essay or writing sample
  • ACT or SAT test scores
  • Additional documentation (as requested)

A student applying for first-year admission is expected to have completed the following units of high school coursework. A unit represents a year's study of a subject. 

  • 4 units of English with an emphasis on composition and literature
  • 3 units of mathematics through at least algebra II
  • 2 units of social studies
  • 3 units of science (including 2 lab courses)
  • 4 units of academic electives (religion, philosphy, or additional units of mathematics, science, foreign language)

All incoming first-year students must send a final high school transcript certifying their graduation, GED, or equivalent to the Office of Admission prior to the start of the students’ Saint Mary's career.

Please note that students from a foreign country should apply for International Admission.

  • Current college students with more than 12 earned credits

International Admission
Who should apply to Saint Mary’s as an international student?

  • Current high school students from a foreign country
  • Current college students from a foreign country

 

Readmission
Who should apply to Saint Mary’s as a readmit student?

  • Former Saint Mary’s students who are returning to the university

 

Special Admission
Who should apply to Saint Mary’s as a special student?

  • Students who do not intend on earning a degree from Saint Mary’s
  • Any local student who is enrolled at another college or university but wishes to take a course at Saint Mary’s
  • Community members who wish to take a course at Saint Mary’s for fun, personal or career growth, etc.

 

PSEO Admission
Who should apply to Saint Mary’s as a PSEO student?

  • Current Minnesota high school students (juniors-seniors) seeking dual-enrollment at Saint Mary’s and their high school

 

Veteran Admission
Who should apply to Saint Mary’s as a veteran student?

  • Veterans of the United States military branches
