Strategic Communication Major

(New for fall 2016)

The Strategic Communication major is an appealing stand-alone program, or double-major option for students in art, business, public relations, marketing, journalism, or other majors. This major also includes new leadership courses. Expectations for communication professionals are increasing and this new curriculum not only reflects these changes but also makes graduates more desirable in the job market and better prepared for career advancement.

New minors are also being offered in Digital Media and Journalism, and Leadership. The minors are designed to enhance the educational experience by complementing majors in a variety of disciplines.

With a major in Strategic Communication, students will learn how communications professionals strategically communicate an organization’s objectives to target audiences and tailor messages relevant to different constituencies. This program also gives students a broad view of mass communication, including multimedia production, news writing, graphic design, and public relations. Degree candidates are given internship opportunities, offering them real-world experience and a direct connection to professionals in the field.
