Kathleen Flanagan is a tenured Associate Professor of Theatre Arts at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota.

She received a B.A. in History and licensure in secondary education from the University of Dayton. She completed a M.A.T. in Communication Arts from Saint Mary's College and a Ph.D. in Arts and Cultural Affairs Administration from Union Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Dr. Flanagan has been on the staff at SMU since 1978; nine years were spent as Director of Career Services. Her teaching in the Theatre Arts Department has focused on oral communication and dance courses. Dr. Flanagan has been certified by and registered with the Irish Dancing Commission in Dublin since 1976. In addition to teaching ceili dance classes at SMU, she directs the Flanagan Irish Dancers. This group of young dancers is listed in the Minnesota Folk Arts Directory and performs at various venues throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin. As part of her doctoral dissertation, Dr. Flanagan extensively researched the history of Irish dancing in Chicago, Illinois. She has continued research on this topic and has presented at numerous conferences and public lectures both nationally and internationally. Her article, "Dance and Song of the Gael: Pat Roche and Irish Dance in Chicago, 1933-1953," was published in New Hibernia Review. Recently, she was invited to present her research at the University of Limerick in Limerick, Ireland.
