Admission

ENGLISH LANGUAGE BRIDGE (ELB) ADMISSION
ADMISSION POLICY

International candidates for admission must complete and file all the required application documents listed below. Admission will be granted if the materials indicate satisfactory preparation for academic work at the university.

Required Documents:

  1. Application Form – Please complete one of the application forms below (there is no application fee):

    1. The online Common Application, OR
    2. The online Saint Mary’s application

  2. Official Transcripts — original or certified true copies of all high school (secondary school) and any university (post-secondary) grade reports as well as any national standardized test results. If the transcripts are not issued in English, transcripts in the original language and English translations by an official, certified translator must both be sent.

    -Complete academic transcripts uploaded by the student’s high school via the common application will be considered as certified true copies 

  3. Test Score Report — request that your official test score report be sent directly to Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.  If you have not taken one of these tests, you will need to do so and request the testing organization send us the score report directly:

    1. TOEFL — Provide the Educational Testing Service (ETS) with Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota’s school code # 6632, OR
    2. IELTS — Request an original Test Report Form (TRF) from the International English Language Testing SystemOR
    3. SAT — (critical reading sub-score of 450 or higher required) Provide the College Board with Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota’s school code # 6632

  4. Essay – a 250 word essay on a topic of your choice.

  5. Letter(s) of Recommendation – from school guidance counselors, teachers, or administrators who know you and are able to speak about your qualifications and readiness for study at Saint Mary’s.

  6. Financial Verification Document— Original bank statement, investment statement or government support letter showing proof that your financial sponsor has sufficient, readily-available funds to cover your attendance at Saint Mary’s University for at least 1 year. This is needed to prepare the Form I-20 to apply for a visa.

  7. Passport Identification Page(s) — Copy showing your full name, birth date and passport expiration date.

Upon acceptance to Saint Mary's University, you will need to submit a confirmation deposit in the amount of US$ $1000.00 to the university. The deposit is credited toward first-semester tuition. If you fail to obtain an F-1 student visa from the U.S. Embassy, the university will refund the deposit upon receipt of the original SEVIS Form I-20 issued to you. The university will deduct an administrative processing fee of US$ $100.00 from the confirmation deposit prior to the refund. Any unpaid balance for tuition, books, student-related fees, and room and board fees are to be paid in full at the start of each semester or special program.
