New Student Orientation
Your introduction to life at SMU

Four new student orientation (NSO) sessions are held every summer on the Winona campus. The three main sessions are scheduled in June. A condensed fourth session, held the day before Move-In Weekend & Welcome Week, accomodates last minute acceptances. All new students must attend an orientation session.

At NSO, students take place examines to determine which math, writing, and/or foreign language classes they should enroll in. Students work with advisors and the Registrar to register for classes, and course schedules are confirmed toward the start of the academic year. Students also learn how to use the university's online tools like Webmail and Blackboard, and get their IDs.

With the "business" side of NSO taken care of, students and their families can go on campus tours, eat lunch, and get to know one another. Fun activities are planned throughout the day. Some activities are designated parents or students only, and we even provide entertainment for younger siblings.

Detailed NSO schedules are posted prior to the June sessions. Questions may be directed to the Student Development Office at (507) 457-1640, (800) 635-5987, Ext, 1640, or studentdev@smumn.edu.
