Details listed below pertain to the Winona campus joint undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremony.
The information contained herein is subject to change.
Any student who will complete all degree requirements by May 11, 2013, is eligible to participate in the commencement ceremony. Students who will not satisfy all graduation requirements by May 11, must request permission to commence by filling out the back portion of the application for Graduation & Commencement form. Questions on eligibility for participation in the commencement ceremony should be directed to the Office of the Registrar. Participation in commencement is not a certification of graduation.
Seniors will rehearse for commencement on Friday, May 10, at 10:00 a.m. in the gymnasium.
Assembly for the procession will take place at 10:15 a.m. on the road in front of Saint Mary’s Hall. Candidates will line up alphabetically, with candidates from Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary at the front of the procession. In case of inclement weather, assembly will be in Gostomski Fieldhouse.
Limited parking is available. A shuttle service will be provided by a nearby parking lot. More information on parking shuttle service will be available soon. Please check back frequently for information.
Academic costume is traditional. Dark clothing and dark shoes are recommended. Students should pick up their academic regalia at the Senior Salute on March 12. Call Jo Nesler at (507) 457-1664 if you have further questions.
Tickets are not required for the undergraduate college commencement ceremony. The ceremony lasts approximately 2 hours. All degree candidates will be hooded before crossing the stage and receiving their diploma.
A reception will be held on the plaza following the ceremony. In case of inclement weather, it will be held in Gostomski Fieldhouse.
Handicapped parking is available on campus. Anyone needing special accommodations for seating in the gymnasium should call Darlene Paulson at (507) 457-1586 to make arrangements. In order to honor all handicapped section seating requests, only one additional guest may sit with the individual requesting handicapped seating. A sign language interpreter will be at the ceremony.

To provide you with a remembrance of the day, we have made arrangements with Lifetouch, NSS to take photos as graduates are receiving their diplomas. Graduates will receive information directly from Lifetouch, NSS regarding the options to purchase protraits. You may also view and order your portaits online at www.events.lifetouch.com. Student accounts must be paid in full prior to graduation. Any questions should be referred to Bruce Greenwood at (507) 457-1446. Diplomas and transcripts are withheld pending completion of all financial obligations.
On-campus housing is available for family members of seniors on a first-come first-serve basis for Friday night, May 10. The cost is $20 per person. Call the Office of Residence Life at (507) 457-1409 to make arrangements.

Eligibility: Generally, any student who will complete all degree requirements by May 17, 2013 is eligible to participate in the June commencement ceremony. Students intending to commence in June are required to submit their Application for Graduation and Commencement which is available in WebTools. Click on Student Academic Record and then select Graduation Application. If you will not be complete in your program by May 17, 2013, our next commencement is Sunday, October 13, 2013. Please direct questions regarding academic eligibility requirements to your program staff.

All eligible students are required to submit a completed Application for Graduation and Commencement no later than April 12, 2013, even if they do not plan to participate in the June 2, 2013 commencement ceremonies.
To complete the Graduation and Commencement Application, please login to your Student Academic Record page in WebTools. Open the SGPP Graduation Application for 06/02/2013 link, complete the form noting any changes and SUBMIT.
A university graduation fee of $190.00 will be charged automatically to your account when you submit this form. (There is no reduction in fee if you choose not to participate in commencement.)
Diploma and official transcripts will not be released for any student who has an outstanding balance with the Business Office.
Parking is available on the streets surrounding the campus or in any Saint Mary's University parking lot. All lots are located on Oakland Ave. A drive up on the north side of the Saint Mary’s Event Center can be used for guests needing assistance.
The ceremony is approximately an hour and a half. Degree candidates will be hooded as they proceed toward the stage. With the exception of the doctoral students, hoods will not be included in the mailed cap/gown packages that you will receive two weeks before the ceremony. Hoods will be received at the ceremony (with the exception of the undergraduate certificate candidates). Candidates will proceed across the stage as their names are called and receive a diploma envelope. The auditorium should accommodate all guests, but we do ask that graduates limit their guests to 6 or under.

All are invited to a reception serving refreshments held outside on the front lawn or on the 2nd floor of the Saint Mary's University Center immediately following the ceremony. Elevators and stairs are located on both sides of the auditorium.
Academic costume is traditional. By completing the Application for Graduation and Commencement form, certificate, bachelors or masters regalia will be mailed to you before two weeks ahead of the ceremony. Candidates for the undergraduate degrees wear the black bachelor's gown that has a block sleeve with no trimming. Candidates for master's degrees wear the master's gown, which is black with a sleeve opening near the wrist called a "bat wing" sleeve. The hood's velvet side depicts the degree color and satin side depicts the school colors. Caps are worn with black tassels and a gold year plate.
The gown size is based on the measurements you provide on your Application for Graduation and Commencement form. Bring the cap and gown for the ceremony (doctoral students will also bring their hoods to give to staff at check-in). You will receive your academic hood from your program director or representative during the ceremony. Doctorate candidates wear the navy Saint Mary's University official academic regalia with the bell shaped sleeve, and black velvet panels and chevron. Questions regarding doctoral academic regalia (which takes 8 weeks from order to delivery) should be referred to Mary Thole at (612) 728-5118.
Diploma envelopes will be presented at the ceremony. Diplomas are not guaranteed at commencement. If your graduation application has been processed through the university and diploma ordered (Jostens requires up to 5 weeks to process diploma orders), and financial obligations cleared, you will receive your diploma at commencement. You may still march in the ceremony if financial obligations are not met. If you do not receive your diploma, it will be mailed to you as soon as it is received on campus if financial obligations have been met. Questions related to processing your Application for Graduation and Commencement should be directed to your program.
