Position Responsibilities
The Graduate School of Education at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota invites applications for course-contracted adjunct ESL faculty and supervisors to join our ESL course-contracted faculty pool to teach and supervise teacher candidates in our M.A. in ESL and ESL licensure program. Course-contracted faculty will teach courses in a blended program (67% face-to-face and 33% online) using the Blackboard platform. Positions are term-to-term appointments. Courses in the program relate to the following topics:  language and literacy, second language acquisition, EL methods, teaching reading and writing, community collaboration, and international perspectives.
The course-contracted instructor position involves the following responsibilities:
  • Teaches courses on evenings and weekends
  • Aids in curriculum and syllabi development, as requested
  • Prepares and delivers engaging instruction to graduate students
  • Facilitates an active classroom environment conducive to student success
  • Evaluates learner performance and learning outcomes
  • Provides regular, timely feedback to learners
  • Attends regular faculty meetings and faculty orientation sessions
  • Supports the Lasallian mission of Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota
The university supervisor position involves the following responsibilities:
  • Preliminary meetings with cooperating teacher and teacher candidate
  • Travels to observe teacher candidates in placements
  • Supervises teacher candidates in short and/or long-term placements in EL classrooms
  • Provides specific, timely feedback communicated to both teacher candidates and university
  • Evaluates learner performance and learning outcomes
  • Attends regular faculty meetings and faculty orientation sessions
  • Supports the Lasallian mission of Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota
Essential Skills and Abilities
It is expected that instructors and supervisors will be knowledgeable and up-to-date on current issues and practices in the English language field. Applicants are expected to engage graduate learners in the classroom and focus on practical, hands-on application of the course material in ways that are relevant to practicing teachers and teacher candidates.
Familiarity with Blackboard or a desire to learn the Blackboard system is essential.

Education and Experience
The instructor should have a K-12 ESL license, a graduate degree related to the field (doctoral preferred), and K-12 EL teaching experience.
