Position Responsibilities

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in chemistry, beginning in August of 2020. The standard teaching load is defined as 22-24 credit hours per contract year, covering chemistry courses and their laboratories depending on departmental need.  Specific courses could include general chemistry, organic chemistry and biochemistry with the opportunity to teach an upper level elective course in the candidate’s area of expertise.  The ability to teach science courses for non-majors or in the integrated general education program is desirable.

Essential Skills and Abilities
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in organic chemistry, biochemistry or related chemical field completed by the time of appointment.  Preference will be given to candidates with expertise at the interface of chemistry and biology such as medicinal chemistry or other related biochemical field.  Candidates must have a record of effective instruction and potential to achieve excellence in teaching. Candidates are expected to develop an active, engaging research program with undergraduates.  Candidates must be able to support the Lasallian Catholic mission of the University to awaken, nurture, and empower learners to ethical lives of service and leadership.

Education and Experience
The successful candidate will have: 
  • Ph.D. in organic chemistry, biochemistry or related field completed by time of appointment.
  • Research experience at the interface of organic chemistry and biochemistry such as medicinal chemistry is desirable.  
  • Plans for developing a research program amenable and engaging to undergraduates. 
  • Evidence of effective teaching experience and potential to achieve excellence in teaching.
  • An interest in teaching science to non-majors and teaching in the integrated general education program.
  • Post-doctoral teaching and/or research experience in organic, biochemistry or related field desired.
