Position Responsibilities
The elementary education faculty member teaches a variety of content and methods courses and supervises student teachers primarily in the Undergraduate Teacher Education Program in the School of Education at Saint Mary’s. This position may also teach and supervise student teachers in our Master of Arts in Teaching program as needed. The faculty member is accountable for highly effective leadership and practice in student learning and engagement. This role is expected to collaboratively engage with colleagues and students in an environment of trust, open communication, and innovation. This is an annually renewable contract with the potential to become a tenure track position.
  • Teach courses as per standard credit load.
  • Perform activities related to assessment of student learning
  • Carry out academic advising and professional mentorship roles
  • Serve on faculty committees as required
  • Remain active in scholarship to further knowledge and stay current in the discipline
  • Participate in commencement exercises and other required university commitments
Essential Skills and Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge and skill in instructional strategies, instructional technology, and assessment
  • Effective teaching practice with a constructivist focus
  • Effective mentoring of students, individually and in a classroom setting
  • Experience engaging in multi-disciplinary collaborations
  The successful candidate must support, respect, and advance the mission of Saint Mary's University as a Lasallian Catholic institution.
Education and Experience
  • Doctorate in education or a related field from a regionally accredited institution preferred
  • Minimum of eight years of teaching in an elementary or middle school setting preferred
  • Must hold an elementary education license (K-6); middle level endorsement(s) preferred
  • Successful K-8 teaching experience and leadership required. Higher education teaching experience preferred.
