Position Responsibilities

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is seeking an Associate Director of Career Services to support the strategy and programming for the Winona campus. This position will develop and maintain employer, alumni, parent and campus recruiting relationships, serve as a career development expert to provide career coaching and advising to undergraduate students on career related issues, develop and implement career services programming and workshops, and focus on building new models for connecting Saint Mary’s students with sought-after employers and distinctive career enhancing experiences. This role will also coordinate the internship program for our undergraduate students.

Coach and advise students 

  • Provide coaching support during peak periods, advising students on career-related issues including self-assessment, major choice, career exploration, internships, full-time employment, graduate school opportunities, and other post-baccalaureate positions. 
  • Leverage benchmarking and knowledge of best practices to contribute to the career service efforts to create excellent career decision-making programming, job and internship search events, fairs and materials for undergraduates.  

Represent the Saint Mary’s career service office

  • Speak with visiting employers, alumni, and prospective students and families during recruiting visits, company information sessions, alumni events, admissions programs, and orientation functions.  

Support the external relations strategy and programming

  • Oversee the corporate recruiting program, involving 20+ companies and serving undergraduate students annually. 
  • Initiate and maintain connections to a wide range of external constituents, including high-level alumni and parents. 
  • Assess employer needs in light of Saint Mary’s culture and students.
  • Work with employers to arrange and showcase their opportunities effectively.
  • Develop a marketing and promotional strategy to communicate regularly with academic departments and students, involving relevant faculty in the process.
  • Enhance relationships with organizations through outreach and visits. 
  • Strengthen, enhance, encourage and initiate more alumni connections and involvement with recruiting and programming. 
  • Maintain an active role in professional associations to remain current with employer/college trends and establish/maintain relationships with recruiters. 

Collect feedback and data 

  • Prepare usage and engagement reports on the career service events and programs on an end-of-semester and end-of-year basis.
  • Leverage data to adjust center’s external relations goals, plan programs and events, and streamline operations. 

In collaboration with the Director, participate as requested on college-wide, state or national professional association committees that sponsor professional development activity and career programs for students. 

  • Associations may include LACN: Liberal Arts Career Network, NACE: National Association of Colleges and Employers, MCUCSA: Minnesota College and University Career Services Association, MPCCC: Minnesota’s Private Colleges Career Consortium, TCHRA: Twin Cities Human Resources Association).

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Master’s degree in the field of career development, counselor education, counseling psychology, student personnel or related and relevant fields preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in career development in a higher education setting or background in HR/recruiting.
  • Experience in career coaching/career counseling/advising.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to effectively interact with and build good rapport with diverse populations to establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with other departments, students, administration, faculty, staff, and employers.
  • Experience developing and conducting career related presentations and workshops to large and small groups.
  • Experience with web-based career management systems (i.e. Handshake) and student database management preferred.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and meet Saint Mary’s driver authorization criteria with a satisfactory driving record.
