Position Responsibilities
The Associate Vice President for Strategic Communications and Marketing leads efforts to elevate the university’s profile and broaden its visibility and brand within the campus communities as well as with national, and regional news media, prospective students and their families, alumni, benefactors and other key university stakeholders. In collaboration with the Vice President for Advancement and Communication, and other key administrative and academic leaders, the Associate Vice President guides the development and implementation of strategies and activities that enhance the university’s visibility, promote and protect its brand and reputation and ensure strategic alignment among all internal and external communications deployed via all digital and print platforms and channels. 
Specifically, the Associate Vice President:
  • Leads a team of ten full-time staff comprising an integrated strategic communications and marketing department to create, refine and implement a broad-based, multi-channel marketing and communications plan for the university.
  • Develops and implements a strategic communications program that reflects the insights, needs, and input of a highly diverse and actively engaged university and community.
  • Serves as lead university spokesperson and public relations representative.
  • Identifies and implements strategies and programs that inform internal audiences and enhance their engagement in and support of strategic university priorities.
  • Leads efforts to align communications, events and experiences with the brand platform to enhance internal and external perceptions of the university.
  • Translates the brand platform into key messages, stories and visual representations to support enrollment, development and visibility objectives.
  • Manages the ongoing development and refinement of graphic standards, visual identity and overall brand architecture.
  • Manages key external relationships related to the Saint Mary’s marketing and communications efforts.
  • Leads the brand implementation team and communicators network function.

Education and Experience
The Associate Vice President will hold an undergraduate degree in marketing or a communication-related field, with an advanced degree preferred. Seven to ten years of experience in the area of marketing and communication management in higher education or the not-for-profit environment is desired, preferably within a complex organization with multiple locations. Experience successfully leading teams and advancing organizational goals and priorities is a must. Prior experience with brand implementation and marketing management is essential.
