Position Responsibilities

The Student Success and First Generation team at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is seeking a Countdown to College and Tutoring Coordinator to support the overall success of students from onboarding to commencement. The Countdown to College (C2C) and Tutoring Coordinator assists the Director of First Generation Initiative and Learning Services in coordinating the summer C2C program, supervises college counselors, recruits and tracks C2C students throughout the year, communicates with parents, and is the liaison with partner school administration and school counselors. This position oversees the tutoring dashboards, reports, and tutoring hours. In addition, the coordinator assists with advising First Generation Initiative (FGI) and C2C students, organizes and implements programs, and works with admissions on recruitment and enrollment of C2C students. 

  • Liaison with partner-school administrators and counselors to recruit potential students for C2C and the First Generation Initiative scholars.
  • Meet with school personnel, parents, and C2C applicants (at their home school) throughout the school year to maximize high school achievement and continued enrollment in C2C and then into First Generation Initiative scholars program.
  • Develop and revise application materials, parent information FAQs, program print and web information.
  • Connect students with admissions counselors in their area.
  • Coordinate the process for the selection of C2C students.
  • Assist with the selection of admissions applications for First Generation Initiative scholars.
  • Overall planning, development, and implementation of the C2C Summer program: recreation, evening workshops and activities, field trips, dorm procedures, transportation, room and board, on-campus classroom and recreational arrangements, etc.
  • Recruit, mentor, supervise, and train C2C Counselors and academic tutors.
  • Advise FGI students throughout the academic year, including regular check-in meetings, connecting students with resources on campus, discussing majors for students, advising through course selection and the registration process. 
  • Oversee tutoring platform – check dashboard daily, monitor tutoring requests, ensure tutors respond to requests, provide reports on tutoring usage, etc. 
  • Update tutor training as needed.
Essential Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience developing strong professional relationships and communicating effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Strong computer skills: solid understanding and use of the Internet, social media, and Microsoft Office. Relational databases and CRM software experience strongly encouraged.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Must be able to travel regionally throughout the year.
  • Familiarity with, and an appreciation of, the value of a private, liberal arts education required.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Computer knowledge of MS Office and relevant applications; ability to use, assess, and manage technology and information systems in the enrollment / student support services area.
