Position Responsibilities

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is accepting applications for two Custodian positions: 

  • 3rd shift from 10:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Tuesday night through Sunday morning 
  • 1st shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday through Wednesday

The Custodian is responsible for general housekeeping and sanitizing in various areas on campus including classrooms, offices, residence halls, athletic facilities, and grounds. General responsibilities include:

  • Restroom and shower room cleaning
  • Carpet maintenance
  • Trash removal
  • Dusting
  • Snow removal
  • Operation of floor machine for refinishing or buffing of floors as needed
  • Wall washing
  • Bleacher setup
  • Changing of light bulbs
  • Other duties as assigned
Essential Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate must:

  • Have effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with students
  • Be able to work independently with little supervision and work well in a team environment
  • Be able to climb and work from ladders
  • Have the ability to lift up to 25 lbs. on a regular basis; up to 50 lbs. on occasion
  • Have the ability to bend, twist, and stoop and spend majority of shift on foot
  • Be able to work nights and weekends if position requires it
  • Be able to work outside in the elements year-round
  • Be able to wear a Saint Mary’s uniform
  The successful candidate must support, respect, and advance the mission of Saint Mary's University as a Lasallian Catholic institution.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Custodial experience in a school or multi-building office/commercial space preferred
  • Valid driver’s license preferred
