Position Responsibilities
Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota invites applications for Director of Instructional Technology. Reporting to the Vice Provost for Online Strategy and Programs, the director leads the academic instructional technology team to build and support online course development and delivery and to identify, select and implement technology solutions that enhance the teaching and learning experience.  The role also partners with others to enable faculty and students to leverage technology to augment their classroom experience. In addition, the director has a key leadership role in the successful implementation and adoption of a new single online learning management system for the entire university.
Specifically, the director
  • Provides strategic direction and leadership for all aspects of instructional technology used to support face to face, hybrid, and online programs.
  • Supervises and mentors the instructional technology team to direct the design, development, and customization of technology-enabled curriculum.
  • Provides expertise in a broad array of educational technologies, including learning management systems, data management, instructional design, instructional video, augmented reality, visual design, and universal design for learning.
  • Oversees technology providers to ensure quality technical support and accessibility compliance across technologies.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Teaching and Learning Center and faculty to Identify areas for faculty development, as well as evaluation and implementation of effective digital learning methods.
  • Serves as primary university liaison to regional and national organizations supporting teaching and learning with technology.

Education and Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, master’s degree preferred.
  • Seven years’ experience in proficient use of technology in education or training, with three of those years at a management/leadership level.
  • Expertise with educational technologies used in higher education, including Learning Management Systems with preference for Blackboard and Canvas experience.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and instructional practices.
  • Technology-enabled and/or online teaching experience, with faculty development experience a plus.
