Position Responsibilities

The Director of Strategic Marketing is responsible for creating and implementing multi-channel marketing strategies to support the University’s marketing and communication goals. This position will analyze the digital marketing performance and develop strategies and tactics to improve effectiveness and efficiency. Overall responsibilities include creation and implantation of marketing material and campaigns. Marketing strategies includes print, radio, email, social, digital and website, video, graphic design, copywriting, optimization testing, search advertising, and display advertising. The ideal candidate will have experience leading a team of marketing professionals with experience hiring, coaching, and developing their staff.

  • Serves as the primary contact with vendors for all digital marketing efforts, including paid online media, search engine marketing, interactive marketing, and internal/external partnerships.
  • Evaluates and integrates new and evolving platforms and tools to reach and engage new audiences and build back to existing audiences.
  • Manages the university’s web properties and works closely with other senior leadership to ensure the content is current, inviting, streamlined, and consistent with the university’s brand.
  • Convenes cross-functional teams responsible for content, design, analytics and maintenance of the website, social media outlets, and other related digital spaces (advertising, email marketing, mobile apps, blogs, etc.).
  • Manages marketing resources strategically and ensures the university’s communications are presented consistently and effectively across all marketing platforms.
Essential Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent planning and web project management skills across multiple developing platforms such as websites, social media, apps, and mobile.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills, with ability to integrate disparate and fragmented content and processes across departments.
  • Advanced collaborative skills and team building orientation to work effectively and harmoniously with technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Sophisticated understanding of digital user behavior and ability to apply these insights to improve user experience or response
  • Basic knowledge of digital advertising platforms and their capabilities (Facebook Ads, Google Adwords, LinkedIn Ads, Pinterest Ads, etc.).
  The successful candidate must support, respect, and advance the mission of Saint Mary's University as a Lasallian Catholic institution.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field is required; master’s preferred
  • Up to four years related experience with at least two years in a leadership position
  • Experience with CRM and CMS platforms, data management, HTML, and other development platforms.
  • Experience leading and developing marketing teams housed in multiple locations.
