Position Responsibilities

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is seeking a Financial Aid Specialist to provide administrative and technical support for the daily operation of the Financial Aid Office. This position is the first point of contact for elevated situations referred to financial aid from Student Central. This role also provides support in preparing student files for awarding, loan processing, and other department activities.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Manage the daily data transmissions through EDconnect.
  • Load electronic files into the financial aid system.
  • Manage the receipt of outside scholarship checks in the Financial aid system. 
  • Manage the document tracking process in order to inform students of missing documents and aid in the completion of the initial financial aid awarding process.
  • Provide support to Associate Directors in relation to verification, state counts, and other processes necessary to prepare student files for awarding.
  • Answer and respond to telephone calls, voicemails, and emails.
  • Assist in entrance and exit counseling in order to facilitate loan processing, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Coach students on the proper completion of the FAFSA and other financial aid paperwork, through email correspondence, phone calls or in person.
  • Process all department mailings, including new student financial aid award packets.
  • Actively participate in continual growth of the financial aid department: effectively managing assigned duties using a variety of technological resources; promoting a student-oriented financial aid office, etc. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned which support the purpose and initiatives of the Financial Aid Office and the University.
Essential Skills and Abilities

The selected candidate will have the following skills and abilities:

  • Strong communication, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with computer-based applications, like COD, Scholarnet, and student management systems.
  • Knowledge of financial aid processes, as well as billing and registration.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize.

Education and Experience

•    Bachelor’s degree required.
•    1-3 years of higher education experience, preferably in financial aid.
