Position Responsibilities

The Human Resources Generalist delivers comprehensive HR services to the university, with particular accountabilities to the Twin Cities campus. Reporting to the Senior Human Resources Generalist, this position is the point of contact for most Twin Cities HR matters, including talent acquisition, employee relations, group benefits, and other employment activity. This role has regular contact with functional leaders and is expected to contribute to the achievement of goals and objectives for both the HR department and the university. In all job responsibilities, this role must support, respect, and advance the mission of Saint Mary's University as a Lasallian Catholic institution.

  • Conducts on and off boarding activities for the TC campus and serves as a backup for the Winona campus.
  • Assists with administering employee group benefits.
  • Coordinates leave of absence and accommodation requests in consultation with the Senior HR Generalist.
  • Serves as point of contact for the Twin Cities campus recruitment process, including ad placement, applicant screening, interviews, reference checks, and offers.
  • Consults with hiring managers to review position descriptions, essential skills and qualifications in preparation for search.
  • Writes or edits job postings to clearly communicate to applicants the position profile and the Saint Mary’s employment brand.
  • Coordinates the hiring process for course-contracted faculty.
  • Conducts employee relations counseling, responds to employee relations issues, and performance improvement plans.
  • Coordinates university employee recognition programs in collaboration with the HR team and other departments.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and communication of personnel policies and procedures.
  • Participates in developing department goals, objectives, and initiatives.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business or related degree is preferred; a combination of education and significant related experience may be considered.
  • At least three years of human resources experience with exposure to all major functional areas of HR.
  • Prior experience supporting diversity and inclusion initiatives including talent acquisition strategies.
  • Prior experience with an HRIS database and advanced computer literacy with the Google platform, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
