Position Responsibilities
Fitzgerald Library at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is accepting applications for an Instructional Design and Outreach Librarian.  We are seeking an innovative, enthusiastic librarian with a strong commitment to information literacy and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a great team.   In this position, the librarian designs, teaches and delivers in person library instruction and creates tutorials as well as LibGuides to support learning.  They collaborate with faculty in specific liaison areas to build print and digital collections that support the curriculum.  The Outreach Librarian develops and leads library programs, activities and projects related to student engagement and gives library instruction to all First Year Experience classes. An integral part of this position is connecting the library with campus-wide initiatives that focus on student success, academic support and retention.  The successful candidate will be an advocate for digital education and digital literacy, using appropriate applications of technology.
This is a 12-month position, reporting to the Library Director.  Responsibilities include:
  • Lead the development, assessment and growth of library instruction and digital literacy
  • Coordinate library instruction for first year experience students and provide curriculum integrated instructional sessions as requested by faculty in all departments
  • Work collaboratively with faculty to integrate library instruction and resources into their courses, designing and scaffolding research assignments
  • Provide face to face and virtual reference service (including evening and weekend hours)
  • Coordinator of librarian liaison program 
  • Serve as liaison to academic departments which will include library instruction, collection development, and communication leading to a strong library relationship
  • Collaborate with Twin Cities Campus Instructional Design Librarians to embed instruction into undergraduate and SGPP bachelor completion courses
  • Contribute to collection development policies in liaison areas and evaluate collections Responsible for selection and deselection of library resources in collaboration with faculty
  • Contribute to academic committees and activities
  • Outreach to student groups, including first generation initiative
  • Keep up to date on national trends in library instruction and applies innovative methods to instruction

Education and Experience
  • ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library and/or Information Science
  • Experience or education which demonstrates knowledge of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education
  • Demonstrated ability or education to effectively use teaching and learning technologies in a dynamic, engaging and organized way
  • Teaching experience in an academic environment
  • Experience creating and delivering information literacy instruction, including assessment
  • Reference and collection development experience in an academic setting
  • Experience as a subject liaison to academic departments
  • Knowledge of and experience with current and emerging technologies as they relate to digital library services
  • Experience with Ex Libris or other library system; content management systems, e.g. Blackboard; discovery layers such as Primo, or EBSCO Discovery Service; virtual instruction software such as Captivate, Camtasia, and Springshare products such as LibGuides, LibAnswers and LibWizard
