Position Responsibilities
The Instructional Designer-Technologist supports faculty members in their work to facilitate student learning through assistance with the creation and building of courses in the University’s learning management system. The Instructional Designer-Technologist serves as a member of the Learning Design Team who works with deans, department chairs, program directors, and all faculty at the University in developing and redeveloping programs and courses with a primary focus on new online or blended courses and current courses that are transitioning to an online or blended modality.
  • Build, test, and proofread courses in Saint Mary’s learning management system
  • Apply appropriate instructional technology to enhance teaching and student learning 
  • Guide faculty on the implementation of educational technologies that support course learning objectives and content
  • Using the Learning Design Team approach, use the instructional design and development process appropriate for the given project
  • Maintain and expand technical skills and knowledge of current and emerging pedagogies for instructional design and instructional technology. 
  • Coordinate with faculty, program staff and Learning Design Team members on the completion of Instructional Technology team deliverables 
  • Promote student usability, experience and access in all Learning Design Team projects
  • Assert Saint Mary’s curriculum development standards and practices
  • Maintain learning design project documentation
  • Prioritize course creation activities and deliverables for multiple courses to ensure timely completion
Essential Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and abilities:

  • Conceptually and intuitively understand how people learn 
  • Experience with curriculum development processes and learning design/assessment techniques (backwards design, etc.)
  • Familiarity with multiple learning delivery modalities 
  • Strong design skills that lead to student learning 
  • Proficiency with multiple learning management systems 
  • Experience developing course page modules for adult learners and traditional age students (all modalities) 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and faculty (face-to-face and virtually)
  • Comfortable leading, speaking and communicating with small project teams
  • Demonstrate patience and develop motivating strategies with faculty that do not share an interest in educational technology
  • Ability to follow the accessibility standards in course modules and materials 
  • Ability to work with competing priorities and shifting deadlines
  • Proficiency with Google Suite for Higher Education
  The successful candidate must support, respect, and advance the mission of Saint Mary's University as a Lasallian Catholic institution.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design, or related area required. Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Recent, substantive and at least 3 years’ experience with instructional design and instructional technology.
  • Familiarity with and experienced in implementing UDL concepts.
