Position Responsibilities
The Department of Communication at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota invites candidates to apply for a full-time, non-tenure track, 9-month term faculty position beginning in August of 2020. The standard teaching load is 22-24 credit hours per contract year of undergraduate classes. Other responsibilities include service to the department and university, and continuing professional development or scholarly activity.  
This position is responsible for teaching up to 8 classes per contract year in public relations, journalism, social media, multimedia production, persuasion, organizational communication, and related classes per year. Specific classes will be decided depending on the successful applicant’s skillset, but may include but are not limited to:  Introduction to Mass Communication, Principles of Public Relations, Advanced Newswriting, Editing, Communication Law, Public Relations Research, Contemporary Issues in Mass Communication, Social and New Media, Multimedia Production, Communication Fundamentals, Persuasion and Advocacy, and Organizational Communication.
Essential Skills and Abilities
The successful candidate will hold a graduate degree, Ph.D. preferred, in mass communication, journalism, public relations or related communication field at the time of appointment. Preferred qualifications include professional experience in public relations and/or journalism, evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching, excellent communication ability with students and faculty, and experience with the use of technology in teaching communication classes.

Education and Experience
The successful candidate will: 
  • Hold a graduate degree, doctorate preferred, in mass communication, journalism, public relations or related communication field at the time of appointment
  • Include evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching, or potential to do so.
