Position Responsibilities

The Library Services Daytime Associate collaborates with the Library Services Evening Associates to ensure excellent library service for the Saint Mary’s community and visitors during weekday hours that the library is open. This position supervises and manages student library employees including scheduling, training, and timesheet approvals. Other duties include helping students with general library services and being responsible for monitoring building security within the library.

  • Open the library every weekday, and prepare the building for the day’s library services
  • Provide initial patron assistance for library directional questions, location of specific items and library policies/procedures. Answer circulation desk phone, routing calls to librarians and library staff as needed
  • Utilize Alma/Primo (library software) to check library materials in and out, maintain patron and material records, run patron notices and answer any questions that may arise regarding bills and notices. Oversee library billing and resolve situations relating to lost/overdue materials. Liaison to Cardinal Central for matters related to student accounts, ensuring accuracy and clear communication regarding account issues
  • Co-manage with Evening Associates ~12 student employees for Circulation desk operations including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance reviews.  Co-supervise student employee workflow on a daily basis
  • Provide basic reference assistance, making referrals as needed to librarians
  • Provide library users assistance with technology
  • Lead library stack maintenance, consisting of daily shelving of all materials, regular shelf reading for shelving accuracy, and shifting projects
  • Along with the Evening Associates accept, monitor and maintain the Reserve collection.  This includes creating bibliographic records if needed for the materials in the library’s system (Alma/Primo)
  • Interlibrary Loan assistant

  • Be detail-oriented and thorough with a high level of accuracy and follow-through
  • Work equally well both independently and collaboratively, with a clear understanding of when each is appropriate
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written skills
  • Reliable and dependable to meet the staffing needs of the library
  • Be flexible and comfortable in accepting change

Education and Experience

Required qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with specialized library systems 
  • At least 1 year of experience in a library and/or in an academic setting
  • Supervisory and training skills and experience
