Position Responsibilities
The Library Services Evening Associate collaborates with the Library Services Daytime Associate to ensure excellent library service for the Saint Mary’s community and visitors during evening and Sunday hours that the library is open.  Library Services provides support for functions of the library such as circulation, stack maintenance and equipment checkout. This position assists in the oversight of student library employees including scheduling, supervision, and timesheet approvals. Other duties include helping students and faculty with general library services, being responsible for monitoring building security within the library, and supervising student workers in their assigned tasks during evening and Sunday hours.  Hours for this position are August through May (academic year) Sunday – Thursday 5:30 p.m. – midnight (until 2 a.m. during Finals). This position reports to the Library Director.
 
Daily during academic year, as part of the Library Services team:
 
  • Provide initial patron assistance for library directional questions, location of specific items and library policies/procedures.  Answer service desk phone, routing calls to librarians and library staff as needed
  • Utilize Alma/Primo (library software) to check library materials in and out, maintain patron and material records, run patron notices and answer any questions that may arise regarding bills and notices.  Also will be responsible for conducting thorough searches in the library for any material that has been claimed returned or missing from shelves
  • Provide basic reference assistance,  making referrals as needed to librarians
  • Provide library users assistance with technology
  • Coordinate library stack maintenance with the Library Services Daytime Associate, consisting of daily shelving of all materials, regular shelf reading for shelving accuracy and shifting projects
  • Interact professionally with coworkers and library patrons
  • Along with the Daytime Associate accept, monitor and maintain the Reserve collection.  This includes creating bibliographic records if needed for the materials in the library’s system
  • Interlibrary Loan assistant
  • Collect, post and create statistical computer records and other reports in areas of responsibility
  • Assist patrons with McEnery Room Reservations, post reservations on study room doors
  • Along with the Library Services Daytime Associate, participate in the scheduling, training, monitoring and evaluation of student employees.  This includes the processing of time sheets and scheduling work study students assigned to the library
  • Provide work assignments and give supervision to student employees.  Assure that there is appropriate desk coverage and assess the quality of the student work
  • Receive and process print periodicals in Alma/Primo.  Responsible for maintenance of   print periodicals and newspapers, which includes claiming missing volumes through Ebsco, recycling and binding as needed
  • Other special projects in the library as assigned
As the sole Circulation Desk staff member on duty at the end of the day, responsible for:
  • Closing and securing the library; preparing it for the next day’s services
  • Assuring the security and proper function of the library.  Responsible for contacting Campus Security as needed during evening and Sunday hours
Essential Skills and Abilities
  • Good customer service is essential.  Ability to talk politely and resolve customer service issues
  • Must be detail oriented and thorough
  • Knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Office) and ability to learn library system
  • Skilled with technology and associated equipment used in library
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written skills are very important
  • Reliability and regular attendance is required

Education and Experience
  • 2 year post-secondary education is preferred, High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • At least 1 year experience in a library preferred, and in an academic setting desirable
  • Knowledge of library classification systems preferred
