Position Responsibilities
The Library Services Technical Associate provides support to the Technical Services team and the Library Services team.  Library Services duties will increase during the summer.  This position is responsible for processing new books and media, creating and maintaining accurate records within the Alma/Primo and OCLC databases.  The Technical Associate serves as back up for Library Services day and evening staff as needed.  Other duties include but are not limited to, repairing items in the collection, deleting of records in the library system and assisting in additional projects within the library. Attention to detail is essential.  This position requires an effective communicator who is able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.  The successful candidate will possess qualities necessary for positive interaction with students, faculty and staff.  The ability to work independently is essential.
 
As part of the Technical Services team:
  • Create new records and maintain existing records in the Alma/Primo and OCLC databases
  • Process all incoming new books and media into the library
  • Add new books and remove books from the new book display
  • Assist with withdrawing items from the collection and deleting records that correspond with withdrawn items from Alma/Primo and OCLC databases
  • Run database reports in Alma/Primo and OCLC
  • Repair materials, such as book pages, spines, covers, media cases, etc. as needed
As part of the Library Services team:
  • Back up Library Services day and evening staff as needed; this will include opening/closing the library, circulation desk duties, retrieving/delivering mail, and providing customer service to patrons
  • Library Service duties will increase during the summer
  • Assist in a variety of special projects in library as needed
Essential Skills and Abilities
  • Superior attention to detail and the ability to complete multiple projects in a timely manner
  • Ability to learn a variety of computer applications including Alma/Primo and OCLC databases
  • Skilled with technology and associated equipment used in library
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written skills are very important
  • Ability to manage time in response to library priorities

Education and Experience
  • 2 year post-secondary education is preferred, High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • At least 1 year experience in a library preferred, and in an academic setting desirable
  • Knowledge of library classification systems preferred
