Position Responsibilities

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota invites applications for Program Director for Character and Virtue Education. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Education, the Program Director works within a community of professionals dedicated to providing relevant, rigorous, and relational academic experiences for adult learners. The role is accountable for overall program administration, faculty and curricular leadership, student advising, professional development of faculty and university service activities for character and virtue education programs. By balancing administrative and academic functions to ensure program vitality and academic quality, the Program Director supports a rigorous approach to teaching and practice that is aligned with the Jubilee Centre’s Character Education Framework and meets student learning goals.  Specifically, this position leads efforts to establish components of character, virtue and ethical education into the Education Specialist graduate program.

Essential Skills and Abilities
  • Collaborates in multi-year marketing and visibility campaigns to promote the program.
  • Establishes and monitors enrollment goals, academic policies, and student retention/persistence.
  • Hires and develops program staff, including program coordinators, faculty, and practicum supervisors.
  • Monitors the development and approval of all course syllabi.
  • Evaluates faculty performance by reviewing student evaluations, observing classes, and monitoring professional and scholarly productivity.
  • Develops community relationships that enhance student and faculty recruitment and cultivate practicum placement sites.
  The successful candidate must support, respect, and advance the mission of Saint Mary's University as a Lasallian Catholic institution.
Education and Experience
  • A background and experience commensurate with an appointment at the Associate Professor (Professor) level with tenure is required; an earned Ph.D. is preferred. 
  • Significant prior teaching and curricular experience in character education, virtue and ethics.
  • Successful program administration experience at an HLC-accredited college at the level of academic department head, assistant dean, or other comparable administrative experience that demonstrates influencing and collaborating with executive level leaders.
  • Experience successfully developing and executing academic strategies in a complex, comprehensive, multi-campus university.
