Position Responsibilities

The MBA Program Director works within a community of professionals dedicated to providing relevant, rigorous, and relational academic experiences for MBA students in the Twin Cities, Rochester, and online. The role is accountable for overall MBA program administration, faculty and curricular leadership, student advising, professional development of faculty, and university service activities. The Program Director ensures program vitality and academic quality by balancing administrative and academic functions that support a rigorous approach business and technology education to meet student learning goals. In partnership with the Dean of the School of Business and Technology, the MBA Program Director will build new external relationships to strengthen and grow enrollment in our programs. The person in this role must support, respect, and advance the mission of Saint Mary's University as a Lasallian Catholic institution.

The MBA Program Director is accountable for overall program administration, faculty and curricular leadership, professional development of faculty, external relationship building, and university service activities.

Program Administration

Works with the professionals in the departments supporting marketing, student services, budgeting and fiscal accountability, and the School Dean to:

  • Collaborate with University administrative units to facilitate the development of a multi-year marketing and visibility campaigns, ensuring alignment of messaging tied to program outcomes
  • Establish and monitor annual enrollment goals
  • Ensure prompt registration of accepted students
  • Ensure that all students have a thorough orientation to the program
  • Monitor academic status of students (probation, leaves, retention, degree completion)
  • Ensure a course schedule that accounts for student progression and appropriate class sizes
  • Administer the formative and summative assessments of student learning outcomes
  • Administer academic policies as documented in the Catalog and Student Handbook
  • Represent the value of the program to others both inside and outside the university
  • Maintain and build relationships in the community for the purpose of recruiting students and faculty, marketing the program, and cultivating practicum placement sites
  • Maintain updated knowledge of and compliance with accreditation standards
  • Forecast income and expenses, create multi-year budgets, and monitor program fiscal performance and reporting
  • Ensure that all expenses are processed in an accurate, timely, and prudent manner
  • Hire, supervise, and develop program staff, including program coordinators and faculty

Faculty Leadership

Collaborate with the Dean of the School of Business and Technology to:

  • Recruit, hire, and retain exceptionally qualified faculty
  • Orient faculty to the MBA program and the University’s processes and mission
  • Ensure that faculty are teaching from approved syllabi and incorporating current technology into their courses
  • Conduct regular faculty meetings to promote consistency in curriculum implementation and sharing of best practices
  • Evaluate faculty performance by reviewing student evaluations, observing classes, and monitoring professional and scholarly productivity

Curriculum Leadership

Work with the Dean of the School of Business and Technology and other staff to:

  • Monitor the development and approval of all syllabi for all courses
  • Conduct program reviews at least every three years
  • Maintain curricular relevance through ongoing connections within the discipline/industry, including serving on industry committees, attending professional conferences, and participating in advisory councils
  • Implement a best-in-class assessment process for measurement of student learning initiatives
  • Develop and revise programs, concentrations, and modalities
  • Work with the Dean to identify opportunities for innovation in alignment with the University’s strategic plan

Professional Development and University Service

Work with the Dean of the School of Business and Technology to:

  • Maintain and enhance disciplinary expertise and scholarship
  • Support and advance the University’s Lasallian Catholic mission, heritage and charism
  • Contribute to the governance structure of the Schools of Graduate and Professional Programs by committee involvement
  • Participate in School and University celebrations (commencements, convocations, and other campus events)
  • Participate in University initiatives and taskforces as requested

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and multi-tasking skills with proven ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal skills with adult learners, faculty, and other professionals in academic settings and with corporate and community partners
  • Demonstrated commitment to the profession through service to professional associations, governing boards, or accrediting bodies
  • Understanding of online education and how to effectively engage online students to maximize the learning experience
  • Strategic mindset to identify growth opportunities for the program
  • A collegial spirit that encourages collaboration between students, faculty, and colleagues
  • Effective interpersonal and supervisory skills in recruitment, performance management, and coaching/counseling
  • Demonstrated relationship-building skills with external partners, vendors, and organizations
  The successful candidate must support, respect, and advance the mission of Saint Mary's University as a Lasallian Catholic institution.
Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree is required; doctoral degree preferred
  • At least two years of senior leadership experience in business or in business education.  
  • Experience in higher education within a business discipline is strongly preferred, including teaching, program development, and/or administration; experience with online and on-ground higher education and accreditation standards is preferred
  • Proven accomplishments in relationship building with the goal of growth and awareness of programs or services
  • Excellent communication skills, including public speaking, one-on-one communication, and written communication
