Position Overview

Saint Mary’s seeks a Provost and Dean of Faculties who serves as the university’s chief academic officer and oversees academic budget planning, development of academic policies and procedures, and supervision of all academic and research programs for campuses in Winona, Rochester, and Minneapolis.  In concert with the university’s emerging strategic plan and its distinctive Lasallian Catholic mission, the Provost will collaborate with the President and the President’s Cabinet to establish and champion an inspiring academic vision.

Essential Skills and Abilities

The preferred candidate has experience to facilitate the strategic academic planning process to lead the university to even higher levels of academic prominence and national recognition. The candidate will contribute to the distinctive Lasallian and Catholic dimensions of the Saint Mary’s mission with his/her leadership experience in the areas of academics, finance, operations, development, and student life. As an experienced administrative leader, the candidate is prepared to work across the broad range of liberal arts and sciences programs and is a thought leader on contemporary higher education issues that affect both traditional undergraduate and non-traditional adult learners. In addition, the candidate is dedicated to the educational mission of Saint Mary’s encompassing the Lasallian Catholic tradition, ethics, classical virtues, and character development.

Education and Experience

An earned Ph.D. or earned doctoral equivalent is required, along with expertise in his/her academic discipline with a proven record of academic achievement commensurate with an appointment at the tenured, full professor level. The candidate will have substantive progressive academic leadership experience in a senior level/executive academic role. The candidate should have subject matter expertise in contemporary higher education issues, strong financial literacy and business acumen, as well as working knowledge of regulatory, governmental, and public media issues affecting higher education.
