Position Responsibilities

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is seeking a Regulatory Specialist to support the Office of Accreditation and Compliance on our Twin Cities Campus. The Regulatory Specialist uses research, project management, collaboration, and regulatory compliance skills and experience to meet higher education regulations, laws, and accreditation standards. This position will support professional licensure disclosure compliance, state regulatory and Higher Learning Commission reporting, and all other Accreditation Office functions.

  • Research, interpret, and monitor state laws and regulations for licenses and certifications in all U.S. jurisdictions to inform student advising needs and licensure disclosure messaging, working with external consultants as needed. 
  • Provide consultation and support to students, faculty, and staff for licensure pathway programs across all campuses and delivery modalities, including but not limited to education, nursing, social work, psychology, and K-12 education, for all jurisdictions.
  • Work with the Director of Accreditation & Compliance to build and manage a centralized and sustainable licensure education, support, compliance, and audit infrastructure, including maintenance of licensing database, training for recruitment and admission staff (including online program partners), and development of licensure education tools (FAQs, marketing materials, web pages, advising missions tools, etc.).
  • Project manage, coordinate, or otherwise support all external regulatory reporting needs, including Higher Learning Commission, MN Office of Higher Education, WI Educational Approval Program, NC-SARA, IL Board of Higher Education, MN DEED, and others.
  • Support programmatic accreditation and state licensing agency compliance as needed.
  • Provide administrative support for the Office of Accreditation & Compliance as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and successfully prioritize multiple tasks with good judgment. 
  • Attention to detail, initiative and follow-through. 
  • Effective planning and organizing:  prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently, and develops realistic action plans. Ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands, and manage frequent change, delays, or unexpected events. Comfortable with ambiguity and incomplete information. 
  • Proficient in Google applications, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn other key technologies as needed. 
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree or J.D. preferred. Combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of higher education regulatory landscape, including but not limited to NC-SARA, Higher Education Act, and state higher education regulatory bodies. 
  • 3+ years’ combined experience in a regulatory or legislative environment (higher education, professional licensure, or accreditation compliance preferred) and student / faculty support in academic settings.
