Position Responsibilities

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota invites applications for a full-time, one-year term Visiting Assistant Professor position in physics, beginning in August of 2021. Specific courses include Algebra-based Introductory Physics, Calculus-based Introductory Physics, Modern Physics, and their associated labs. The ability to teach science courses for non-majors, such as Astronomy or courses in the general education program (i.e., Quantitative Reasoning), is desired.

This position is ideal for candidates who wish to build their teaching portfolio while joining a team of high-quality faculty instructors. Support through peer-faculty mentoring and the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching is available to assist the applicant in furthering their professional growth and goals.

Essential Skills and Abilities

The successful candidate will hold a graduate degree, Ph.D. preferred in physics or a related field.  ABD candidates will be considered.  Candidates must demonstrate potential to achieve excellence in teaching. Interest and willingness to teach in an active-learning environment or with inquiry-based curriculum materials is preferred.

Education and Experience

The successful candidate will have:
●    A graduate degree, Ph.D. preferred, in physics or a related field completed by time of appointment. ABD will be considered.   
●    Evidence of effective teaching experience or potential to achieve excellence in teaching.
●    An interest in teaching science to non-majors and/or teaching in the integrated general education program.
