Position Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Counseling Services, the Wellness Center Counselor is responsible for delivering counseling services to students with more severe mental health concerns and AOD programming/counseling. This position delivers clinical services, AOD outreach and preventive programs that address the psychological and behavioral needs of the residential undergraduate student population in Winona, with particular emphasis and expertise in alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues.  Services include: diagnostic assessment and evaluation; evidence-based individual, couples, and group psychotherapy; case management; crisis and emergency intervention, referrals to outside providers, workshops, presentations, and other outreach activities.
  • Provides clinical counseling services directly to students as needed, arranging for referrals to outside partners for intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, or inpatient care.
  • AOD program responsibilities include: short-term individual and group counseling, providing outreach and psycho-educational programs for students, consultation, outreach, and working with other campus groups addressing alcohol issues.
  • Provides consultation, education and outreach services to faculty, staff, and students on student-centered developmental and psychological issues.
  • Works cooperatively with colleagues in student life, student success, health services and other offices throughout the university to deliver counseling and outreach services that optimize student strengths and healthy development, and for the prevention and intervention of psychological and behavioral concerns.
  • Maintains the quality, integrity and confidentiality of clients’ records.
  • Participates in on-call to assist students in crisis.
  • Participates in the center's emergency and crisis response procedures in accordance with the established Emergency Response Plan for the Winona campus.
Essential Skills and Abilities
  • Strong generalist clinical skills and experience working with serious mental health issues.
  • Working knowledge of behavioral health and evidence-based treatments for AOD and mental health conditions.
  • Knowledge of developmental issues in university populations.
  • Adept at building and maintaining collaborative, impactful relationships with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and social communication skills.
  • Multicultural literacy regarding a diverse student population.
  • Embodiment of the principles of Lasallian mission and pedagogy.
  • Expertise in crisis intervention and management.

Education and Experience
  • A master’s degree in clinical psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy is required; terminal degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) is preferred.
  • Valid and current professional license in the State of Minnesota (LPCC, LP. LISW, LICSW, LMTF), or eligible for MN licensure.
  • At least 3 years’ prior experience as a practicing clinician; experience working in a college counseling, preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of college students’ developmental issues as well as current ethical, legal and clinical best practices as foundational principles for quality collegiate counseling.
