Position Responsibilities

The Writing Center Consultant is responsible for providing instructional support in technical and academic writing to students enrolled in the Schools of Graduate & Professional Programs (graduate education, health & human services, business & technology and undergraduate professional programs).  This position conducts face-to-face and online writing consultations in the Writing Center, assists the Director of University Writing Services as needed and teaches workshops as assigned.

  • Provide technical and academic writing support to students enrolled in the Schools of Graduate and Professional Programs (SGPP).
  • Assist in the scheduling and hours of operation for the writing lab.
  • Assist in the establishment of policy for delivery of services.
  • Develop and deliver writing workshops for students and faculty related to issues of form and style.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Provide effective and creative writing support to students.
  • Collaborate with writing center peers in support of academic integrity.
  • Adapt to frequent changes in workload, adjusting priorities quickly as circumstances dictate. 
  • Excellent organizational skills with proven ability to prioritize work responsibilities.
  The successful candidate must support, respect, and advance the mission of Saint Mary's University as a Lasallian Catholic institution.
Education and Experience
  • Master's degree, preferably in rhetoric and composition or English education.
  • Teaching and tutoring experience with adult students, including ESL, is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and APA style.
  • Ability to work occasional weekday evenings and Saturday days, and maintain a flexible schedule.
