Providing information to improve the effectiveness of the university
The Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE) serves the Saint Mary’s community by providing information to support data-informed decision-making, institutional planning and improvement efforts, and overall institutional effectiveness. Responding to both internal and external data requests (including mandatory government reporting), is a key function of the office, which includes Institutional Research, management of an emerging data governance initiative, and non-academic program/unit review (in development in 2022).
One component of our work is creating a University Fact Book that provides an overview of the university and the students it serves. View the 2020-2021 University Fact Book for data on academic programs, students, faculty/staff, student retention, and degree completions.
The College Navigator was developed by the U.S. Department of Education as a consumer tool for students and their families to provide a core set of descriptive statistics compiled and derived from data collected on the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) surveys. IPEDS surveys are the core postsecondary education data collection program for NCES – the National Center for Education Statistics. Each institution’s College Navigator profile provides publicly available institutional data, such as programs offered and degrees awarded, retention and graduation rates, the price of attendance, and student aid availability.
