Scholarly & Creative Interests
In addition to teaching, Dr. Feder-Lewis is involved in research in two main areas: British fiction and the adult learner in the composition classroom. She has presented at many national conferences, and for the last several years has chaired a Special Interest Group on Adult Writers in Diverse Settings as part of the National Council of Teachers of English’s Conference on College Composition and Communication, as well as served as a first stage reviewer for that peer reviewed conference. Along with these activities, Dr. Feder-Lewis has served on the Editorial Board for two editions of The Bedford Guide for College Writers, and was a consultant and a contributor to the recently published Bedford Bibliography for Teachers of Adult Learners. She is currently engaged in a study of the transformative learning potential of Prior Learning Assessment narratives for students taking part in that process, the formation of writing identity in doctoral writing groups, and the link between British and Post-Colonial fictions.

Dr. Feder-Lewis has taught writing and humanities courses in undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs at Saint Mary’s University for more than 20 years. For five years, she served as Undergraduate Communication Core Program Director and Program Director of the English Language Academy, an English as a Second Language instruction program offered to help students improve their academic reading, writing, and speaking skills prior to beginning coursework. During her time at Saint Mary’s, Dr. Feder-Lewis has twice been honored with an Outstanding Faculty award.
