Biology Pre-Medical Imaging Major
Medical imaging is an important part of healthcare, and as a pre-medical imaging major with an emphasis in either echocardiography, radiography, or sonography - coupled with a 21-month internship - you can develop the knowledge and skills to perform high-demand diagnostic imaging procedures.
Prior to a 21-month internship, you will complete the general education requirements as well as the prerequisite courses at Saint Mary’s (approximately two years of coursework). Acceptance to the clinical program at Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences is contingent upon your academic achievement. Upon successful completion of the clinical program, you will receive a certificate of completion from Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences and are eligible to take the certification exam in your chosen emphasis.
Do you thrive in a hands-on learning environment? Do you have an interest in heart health? The biology pre-echocardiography program provides a hands-on education that will prepare you for a career as a sonographer.
The pre-echocardiography program is a four-year program designed to provide you with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology pre-echocardiography. Saint Mary’s University is affiliated with the echocardiography training program at Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences.
Do you have a desire to help others and a passion for healthcare? A career in radiography involves the use of highly sophisticated equipment to create X-rays used by physicians to diagnose disease, injury or disability.
The biology pre-radiography major is affiliated with the radiography training program at Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences and prepares you for the certification exam given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART).
Sonography is a non-invasive medical procedure that uses the echoes of high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to construct an image (sonogram) of internal organs or body structures. Physicians interpret the images to make a medical diagnosis.
The biology pre-sonography program combines a solid foundation in biological sciences with specialized technical training to prepare you for a sonography training program. Saint Mary’s is affiliated with Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences and following completion of a sonography training program, you are eligible to take the certification exam administered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
