Each year, Lasallians honor Saint John Baptist de La Salle, founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and patron saint of teachers, on May 15, known as the Solemnity of Saint John Baptist de La Salle or Founder’s Day.
Although it has been more than four months since the beatification of Blessed Brother James Miller, FSC, those who attended the ceremony in Guatemala said that experience serves as a daily reminder of the Lasallian charism in the modern world. They were just 15 in a crowd of more than 500,000 gathered in Panama City this past January for World Youth Day. Although relatively small in number, the 15 Saint Mary’s University attendees (comprised of students, staff, and alumni) had an extraordinary emotional and faith-filled experience.
