Excellence in the sciences is one of three Centers of Excellence outlined in Strategic Plan 2017, the university's road map to progress in our second century. Much progress has been made:
A multi-disciplinary science vision task force was formed and authored the document, "Building the Next Generation of Scientists - A New Vision for Science Excellence in the 21st Century."
New partnerships have been formed with Mayo Clinic, the Kabara Cancer Research Institute at Gundersen Health System and the University of Minnesota and Cascade Meadow Wetlands and Environmental Science Center.
Programs of study in the sciences continue to evolve, including degrees in engineering, bio-medical technology, and environmental resource informatics; and many hands-on internship and research opportunities (some with an international component) are being explored and developed.
This progress, though remarkable, is only the beginning to Saint Mary's honoring our heritage and reclaiming our standing as a leader in science education and preparation. The effort will require the time, energy and talents of many from across the university's broad community.
As is pointed out in Strategic Plan 2017, "This is who we are - a transformational and innovative national university with a global footprint. Our 100-year story of success is an extraordinary one, and we remain committed to providing the transformative education needed for our day and time as a modern American university in the Lasallian Catholic tradition."
