Biology Pre-Laboratory Scientist Major
Are you passionate about healthcare? Would you love to work in a laboratory setting?
Laboratory scientists have an important role in working with physicians and pathologists in the diagnosis, treatment, management, and prevention of disease.
Medical Laboratory Science Emphasis
A medical laboratory scientist analyzes a variety of biological specimens, performing scientific testing and reporting results to physicians. The biology pre-medical laboratory science major prepares you for clinical experiences in laboratory medicine.
The Saint Mary’s major can be completed in three or four years, and you can earn your degree with an additional year at an accredited program, such as the medical laboratory science program at Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences in Rochester, Minn., and Edward Hines, Jr. Veterans Administration Hospital in Hines, Ill.
Do you want to learn to detect cancer and other abnormal conditions? The pre-cytotechnology major at Saint Mary’s does just that, while also preparing you for your clinical training program.
Cytotechnology is the microscopic study of body cells to detect cancer, viral and bacterial infections, and other abnormal conditions. The pre-cytotechnology program is a four-year program designed to provide you with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology pre-cytotechnology. Some students complete all four years of the major studying at Saint Mary’s state-of-the-art Aquinas Hall on our Winona Campus followed by a fifth year at an accredited program, while other students complete their fourth year at an accredited program, such as the cytotechnology training program at Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences.
- Professional positions in medical laboratory setting or cytotechnology laboratories
