Biology Pre-Laboratory Scientist Major

Medical Laboratory Science Emphasis

A medical laboratory scientist analyzes a variety of biological specimens, performing scientific testing and reporting results to physicians. With an emphasis on medical laboratory science, you will obtain the background sciences necessary to complete a clinical internship at an accredited medical laboratory science program. Saint Mary’s is affiliated with the Medical Laboratory Science Program at Mayo School of Health Sciences in Rochester, Minn., and the Edward Hines, Jr. Veterans Administration Hospital in Hines, Ill. The Saint Mary’s major can be completed in three years, and you can earn your degree with an additional year at an accredited program.

Cytotechnology Emphasis

Cytotechnology is the microscopic study of body cells to detect cancer, viral and bacterial infections, and other abnormal conditions. With this emphasis, you will gain the background you need to complete a clinical program with an accredited cytotechnology program. Saint Mary’s is affiliated with the Cytotechnology Program at Mayo School of Health Sciences in Rochester, Minn. The Saint Mary’s major can be completed in three years, and you can earn your degree with an additional year at an accredited program.
