Emergency alerts and notifications
The university’s emergency notification system is the primary method for communicating urgent information, including emergencies, severe weather, and campus closures. Notifications may be delivered by phone call, email, text message, and other communication methods. All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to register for text alerts and regularly verify their emergency contact information.
In addition to emergency notifications, classroom and office phones may be used to broadcast emergency messages across campus when immediate communication is required.
The Minneapolis Campus Public Address (PA) System All classrooms are equipped with telephones. In the event of an emergency, the phone system will be used to send a page message to all office and classroom phones.
Weather closings and campus emergencies
Weather alerts are posted on the Saint Mary’s website homepage (smumn.edu) and on Saint Mary’s Facebook page. Students attending classes on the Minneapolis Campus may also dial the general number, 612-728-5100, and listen to the answering system’s broadcast message which is updated to communicate weather-related cancellation information after an official decision has been made.

You can access Security Services three ways during business hours:
- Call 612-720-0417
- Press the pre-programmed security button on Campus phones
- A security radio is located in each building
To enhance building security, all buildings are locked during business hours. Students, faculty, and staff need to use a fob or a Bluetooth access device to enter buildings. Access is provided upon course registration.
Security escorts
Security staff are available to provide non-emergency escorts from one building to another or to vehicles.
Parking and vehicle assistance
Parking on the Minneapolis Campus is free and available in clearly marked campus parking lots as well as on the public streets near campus. Parking passes are required and are distributed at the start of the semester for new students.
Lost and found
Campus Security is the official Lost and Found location for campus. If you have lost something, come to the Office of Campus Security to describe your item(s) and retrieve them. Lost and Found items turned into Campus Security are logged, labeled, and kept for 30 days. If an item has a name associated with it (wallet, credit card, etc.), Campus Security will try to contact the individual to let them know to come retrieve their lost item(s).
