Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota has a long tradition of serving students from many different backgrounds. International students from Asia, Africa, Europe, and South and North America are part of our student body today. 

At Saint Mary’s, you will focus on a particular major as preparation for future careers, but also study subjects outside your major area — with the goal of becoming a well-rounded, critical thinking citizen of our globally interconnected world.


APPLICATION PROCESS
  1. Application Form
    Complete and submit a Saint Mary’s online application at smumn.edu/applyinternational.
  2. Official Transcripts
    Provide original or certified true copies of all high school and any university transcripts, as well as any national standardized test results. If the transcripts are not issued in English, transcripts in the original language and English translations must both be submitted.
  3. English Proficiency Test Score Reports
    Provide official TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, MELAB, PTE Academic, ITEP, EIKEN, or Duolingo score reports. The TOEFL and SAT require the Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota school code of 6632. The IELTS does not require a code. Learn more at smumn.edu/englishtest.
  4. Essay
    Submit a 650-word essay on a topic of your choice.

Additionally, students that have completed 30 undergraduate or 12 graduate credits from an accredited U.S. institution or the equivalent of these credits from an institution in a waiver country listed below will be exempt from English Language Proficiency test. Transfer students will be considered for each of the scholarship categories above. Scholarship determination for transfer students with 12 or fewer credits will be made using high school GPA; for those with more than 12 credits, university GPA will be utilized.

Financial Verification Documents
Original bank statement, investment letter, or government support document showing proof that your financial sponsor has sufficient funds to cover your costs at Saint Mary’s for at least one academic year.
