Question: How long have you been at Saint Mary’s?

Scotti: Over 20 years.

Question What courses do you teach for Saint Mary’s?

Scotti: I have taught in the Human Resources Department for both the bachelor completion and the graduate school programs. The courses have been HR Strategy, Conflict and Negotiation, HR Consulting, Compensation and Benefits, and Training and Development.

Question: What is your educational background?

Scotti: Credentials: Undergrad degree – honors student in psychology from the University of Minnesota, and a master’s degree in human resources and industrial relations from the Carlson School at the University of Minnesota.

Question: Please share a little bit about your professional experience.

Scotti: I have been in human resources for over 30 years holding high level HR positions in the corporate world as well as for non-profits.

Question: What are your research interests?

Scotti: Learning and development and leadership.

Question: What is your favorite classroom assignment, and why?

Scotti: Mock union exercises, as well as student presentations. These are my favorites because there is some risk involved for the student. They must think on their feet in front of others, further honing their interpersonal skills as well as demonstrating their book knowledge.

Question: How do you personally (and other faculty) provide help and guidance to students to ensure their success?

Scotti: I meet with students where they are at, encourage growth, and provide access to resources for further learning and support.

Question: How do you define community at Saint Mary’s?

Scotti: Kind, generous, and down to earth.

Question: What’s your favorite thing about Saint Mary’s?

Scotti: For me it is the people, the students and other faculty. People make time for each other.

Question: Why should a prospective student choose Saint Mary’s?

Scotti: Learning from business practitioners provides the students with real-case scenarios and an insider understanding of the obstacles that businesspeople encounter.

Question: What are some of your hobbies or interests?

Scotti: I like to travel on adventures. Just recently I hiked Mount Snowdonia in Wales. Next April I am going white water rafting in Costa Rica.

Question: Is there anything else you want to share?

Scotti: I am on the board for the Carlson School Human Resources Graduate School at the University of Minnesota, and have been facilitating an HR Roundtable for professionals every month for several years.
