3 + 2 PA People and Culture

Senior Megan Frosch plans to become a physician assistant and is leaning toward specializing in women’s health. And by pairing her biology health science (3+2 accelerated PA program) major and health humanities minor, she plans to focus on the wellbeing of her patients as a whole.

“I would describe health humanities as connecting with patients as a person, treating the person as a whole instead of just treating their illness,” she said. “It’s about looking at what is happening in their family lives or personal lives as well.”

Frosch says there are many health humanities career opportunities. “There are a lot of social service job careers,” she said. “It’s wide reaching. I’ve taken philosophy, theology, and literature courses. This major/minor gives you a holistic view on how different issues can be viewed from different perspectives, and it equips you how to handle different issues like palliative care and how different people may choose to pass, based on their religious backgrounds.”

For Frosch, health humanities has been the perfect complement to her major.

“I have really enjoyed it,” she said. “I want to provide care for people based on what they’re going through entirely and get to the bottom of the issue instead of trying to mask it. I want to provide holistic care.

“It’s put into perspective why I want to do what I want to do. I’m going to be impacting people’s lives in a hopefully meaningful way. I feel like I’ve been given a lot of resources through health humanities to make a difference.”
