With the month of October focused globally on mental health awareness, Dr. Anthony Isacco, program director for the M.S. in Clinical Psychology program, recently authored a piece featured in the National Catholic Register reflecting on how Pope Leo has been a role model of listening during his papacy. Dr. Isacco’s article, “Pope Leo’s Superpower: Listening,” discusses Pope Leo’s emphasis on the need for the Catholic Church to be a community of healing in a time of a mental health crisis.
From the story:
“When suffering, the first step to healing is to feel heard, valued, and dignified. Pope Leo is showing the world the power of profound listening. His listening is not passive or a sign of inaction. Indeed, his listening is a superpower that is allowing him to convey to individuals and to the worldwide Church his view that humanity is magnificent.”
