The Winona Post recently published an article highlighting the student teaching experience of Saint Mary’s students Amelia Spilde, Sean Burke, and Cori Claeys. The students spoke about their experience as student teachers and how they applied their knowledge from their courses at Saint Mary’s to create fun and engaging lessons for the students. Assistant professor Susan Baloun also spoke about how student teaching helps build confidence for future educators.

From the Story:

“To help students learn, Spilde realized that overall, children’s needs must be met. ‘So anything you want to achieve academically, you have to have the foundation of their basic needs met first,’ she said. Burke and Claeys recognized the need for being open with lessons. ‘So it’s very difficult for my perfectionist in me to let loose the reins of my control over activities, but I think the primary thing is that student teaching taught me … letting loose those reins so they can experiment and enjoy history,’ Claeys said.”
