The Winona Post celebrated Saint Mary’s Shakespeare Showcase in a recent article, a theatrical production held in collaboration with the university’s Co-curricular Arts program and the Great River Shakespeare Festival. Students performed a variety of scenes and monologues from Shakespeare’s works. Students were inspired to learn more about Shakespeare following the performance of “Twelfth Night” by U.K. theater company, The Lord Chamberlain’s Men, at the Page Theatre last fall. Students spent one month preparing under the guidance of members of the Great River Shakespeare Festival, learning about language, rhythm, and body movement.
From the Story:
“SMU junior Cannon Manley, who played Flute and Mustardseed in ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and Richard in ‘Richard III,’ said he was inspired to perform after seeing the Lord Chamberlain’s Men last fall. … Reading and performing Shakespeare, Manley said, has given him a new appreciation for the work of Shakespeare and theater. ‘It’s definitely inspired me to have more appreciation for this type of art,’ Manley said.”
