Each year Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota welcomes an internationally recognized speaker as it engages the public in important, thought-provoking conversation and discussion during its Hendrickson Forum. This year’s keynote, Joanne B. Ciulla, Ph.D., professor and director of the Institute for Ethical Leadership at Rutgers University Business School and a pioneer in the field of leadership ethics, will present “Leading with Integrity: Overcoming the Moral Hazards of Leadership,” Friday, April 10, at Saint Mary’s Minneapolis Campus.
Also at the forum, a local leader is honored with the Hendrickson Institute Medal for Ethical Leadership. This year’s recipient is Tim Marx, J.D., counsel at Winthrop & Weinstine and a dedicated servant leader.
Joanne B. Ciulla, Ph.D.
Dr. Ciulla has written extensively on topics related to business ethics such as meaningful work, corporate ethics, international leadership, and the philosophy of work. Before joining Rutgers, she held the Coston Family Chair in Leadership and Ethics at the Jepson School of Leadership Studies (at the University of Richmond), where she was one of the school’s founders. She also has held academic appointments at Harvard Business School, The Wharton School, and LaSalle University.
She has served as president of The Society for Business Ethics and The International Society for Business, Ethics, and Economics. She has been an expert witness, consulted, and given lectures and seminars to business, government, and non-profit organizations worldwide. Dr. Ciulla has received multiple Lifetime Achievement Awards for her work.
Tim Marx, J.D.
After investing more than 40 years in public service, which included roles as president and CEO of Catholic Charities of the Twin Cities, commissioner of the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency, and as city attorney and deputy mayor of Saint Paul, Marx returned to the practice of law. He joined Winthrop & Weinstine in 2022 as counsel in the firm’s housing, real estate, and government affairs/regulatory practices, where he continues to contribute to the community, including in nonprofit leadership.
He has spent his career pursuing efforts to strengthen his community and better the lives of thousands who are experiencing homelessness and poverty. He currently serves as vice chair of the board of directors for Fairview Health Services, as a board member of the Twin Cities Housing Alliance, and as housing advisor to the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation. He recently completed terms as vice-chair of the National Alliance to End Homelessness and as a member of the Community Advisory Board for the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. He is also a founding sponsor and run mentor with Mile in My Shoes, a running club for those who have experienced homelessness.
Recipients of the Hendrickson Medal for Ethical Leadership have made significant contributions to the Twin Cities community and exhibit ethical leadership that is globally oriented, innovative, and creative. Further, recipients advocate for engaged citizenship that significantly improves the lives of others’ appreciation for diverse ideas and perspectives.

This year’s event will be held Friday, April 10, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with check-in and networking beginning at 11 a.m. at the Saint Mary’s University Center at 2540 Park Ave. in Minneapolis. The event is open to the public and general admission tickets are $75 per person, which includes lunch. Advance registration is required.
