Custom specialization for Educate Pathways Students Only
Through a partnership with Educate Pathways, Wisconsin teachers and administrators can apply credits from the Project Teaching, 10 Sped, and WiscAd programs toward the Saint Mary’s M.A. in Education program. Gain the skills and confidence to prepare for Wisconsin state licensure while saving time and money. Start in September, January, or May, and create a personalized completion plan with your program director.
Participants will earn 15 graduate credits during their participation in Buttimer or JJI through completing additional requirements with a Saint Mary’s instructor. Participants must complete the 15-credit core curriculum of the M.A. in Education program to complete the degree.

General admission requirements
Master’s program applicants may apply for admission to a master’s degree program at any time during the year.
Master of arts applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution and maintained an overall grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.00 scale.
English language proficiency
Students with transcripts from universities located outside of the United States, unless from a waiver country listed here, are required to take and pass English Proficiency testing.
Saint Mary’s accepts:
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 4 (formerly 72)
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum score of 6.0
Michigan Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) with a minimum score of 74%
International Test of English Proficiency (ITEP) with a minimum score of 4.0 or Pearson Test of English with a score of 51
Duolingo with a minimum score of 105.
Education program application requirements
Education program applicants must submit the following:
Completed application form.
An official transcript(s) issued to Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota from the institution posting the applicant’s completed bachelor’s degree and other relevant transcripts documenting program prerequisites and potential transfer credits. (An official transcript is one that is sent to the university by the credit-granting institution.)
Saint Mary’s can order and cover the cost of transcripts from institutions that allow third-party requests for eligible degree-seeking applicants. Contact your enrollment counselor for more information.

Yes, it is fully online asynchronous with synchronous opportunities throughout the program.
Do I have to do a thesis or a research project?
As your final culminating project you will write an action research paper. This consists of an analysis of a district (or school) initiative and designing an appropriate classroom-level lesson for your students. Upon completion of your project, you will present your findings to your cohort.
Can I just do the specializations?
We offer a 15-credit graduate certificate in Mental Health in Education.
Is this master's program for someone looking to get their first teaching license?
No, if you are looking to get your initial teaching license as part of your master’s degree, please apply for our Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program.
Can I use Educate-WI courses toward my M.A. in Education at Saint Mary’s?
